VISAYAN ORIGIN STORY Version 2.0 Magwayan and Kaptan live happily together and bear two children: Sikalak and Sikabay. Sikabay stays close to Kaptan and Sikalak assumes that they are having an affair. Sikalak loves his sister Sikabay, and is enraged by this. He convinces Magwayan to make Kaptan disappear, but unfortunately, he brings Sikabay with him. One day Sikabay and Kaptan leave for the dark parts of the earth. After years of training, Sikalak travels to find Sikabay. Sikalak undergoes the 7 deadly challenges, a set of obstacles Magwayan and Kaptan unintentionally set up after years of sending messages to each other. After Sikalak defeats the 7 deadly challenges, he and Sikabay meet.  However, Kaptan is enraged and tells Sikalak that he and Sikabay can't be together because they are life and death respectively; having them together would cause chaos. SIKALAK AND SIKABAY Historical Background and Findings Ancient Filipinos have taken great importance in nature. They revolved their beliefs in accordance with nature and they also worship nature spirits. We can conclude from this fact that ancient Filipinos have realized the role of nature in their lives. They appreciated the gifts of nature and in return, give back to nature by taking care of it. It is a great lesson to us modern Filipinos to learn the impact of our actions on our environment. Let us go back to our roots where nature is the centre of our lives. To stop the current issue of our environmental destruction, we must learn to respect and value nature. Before the Spanish Colonization, ancient Filipinos had their own culture and beliefs focusing on nature and its spirits.
